The main difference between BUCKEYES (short for Beautiful
Gardens by BUCKEYES) and other landscaping companies is our formal Horticultural Education.
Both Owners,
Marc and Elizabeth Gross, are Ohio State University Horticulture Graduates.
Marc in Agronomy (turf care), and
Elizabeth in Horticulture (plant care).
In addition to this formal education in How to Plant, What to Plant
and Why...
we have had more than 10 years hands on experience in the field of Horticulture
before combining our
education and experience and creating BUCKEYES.

We offer traditional landscaping services with a "Nature-Friendly Gardening Twist".
What this means is we enhance the areas near your home, transforming your ordinary landscaping into a personalized,
beautiful, flower filled, wildlife helpful and easy care true "Garden".
We choose trees, shrubs and
perennials that offer nature friendly attributes
(berries, seeds, nectar, thorns, shelter).
We keep your
yard looking "normal", yet with subtle changes it becomes more helpful to nature.
This is the main joy
of our business. I
n fact, Elizabeth enjoys Gardening for Wildlife so much that she has taken additional training
to become a Certified Wildlife Habitat Designer (Habitat Ambassador) with the National Wildlife Federation.
We
use this knowledge both in helping our clients,
and in helping educate others in the importance of Landscaping
"Nature Friendly".
For instance, we recommend reduced water usage plants (to save water), no pesticide spraying
(to encourage good bugs and birds to eat the bad bugs for FREE!), encourage covering ground with groundcovers plus adding
yearly mulch(to reduce weeds, increase soil moisture holding capacity, regulate root temperatures and as the mulch breaks
down it feeds the roots, for healthier plants),
and the addition of Rustic Stone patios, paths or walls vs.
solid concrete or unilock (stonework with cracks and crevices allow wildlife safe undetected passage between hiding places,
and also sites to find food.) These are some of the types of organic and helpful service changes we practice.
A specialty of BUCKEYES is that we are often asked to use our Nature Knowledge
to help with DEER PROBLEMS.
We can design, install and tweek your landscaping
so that it deters deer
and saves you the headaches of
having half eaten plants or constantly needing to spray protectors.
We are Family Run....
As a small,
family run company, with a background in Horticulture,
we are able to offer affordably priced, personalized service
while also quickly handling any size landscaping project you may need.
From rejuvenation of existing aging
landscaping to removal, new design and installation,
we are happy to help you.
We also try to offer service above
and beyond.
For example: we include SASE with all invoices, we try to accomodate date and hour requests,
bring
up trashcans, return calls promptly etc...
we try to help make your day and your landscape the best we can.

Before starting BUCKEYES in 2005, Marc and Elizabeth both had over 10 years experience
in their fields. Marc, a Certified Golf Course Superintendent,
previously has been the Director of Golf and Grounds
for The Diplomat, a Westin 5 star golfing resort,
and also the Superintendent for 3 Doral Ryder Open PGA Tour Golf Tournaments.
Elizabeth worked on the Landscaping and Greenhouse Crews for Akron's Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, continuing on
as a floral designer and then Nursery/Garden Center Manager for a Botanical Garden.
Our previous jobs, combined
with our OSU horticulture education and "Nature Knowledge"
gives BUCKEYES a unique advantage in the landscaping
industry.
Marc and Elizabeth have personally worked in all aspects of their business.
Everything from
site evaluation, to color combinations,
growth and maintenance of healthy plant material, budgeting, time management,
efficiency, customer service and more.
We are able to pass this training and information on to our staff
in learning how to best offer your gardening service.
In addition, our staff is local and drug/criminal
free.
BUCKEYES proudly takes care of clients throughout NE Ohio,
with the main amount of business in the
city of Hudson.
Based in Cuyahoga Falls, our maintenance routes (weekly mowing, snowplowing)
primarily service
a 10 mile radius (Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Silver Lake, Munroe Falls and Stow).
For design and landscape installation
we are happy to travel anywhere in NE Ohio,
and also offer help nationwide by email/mail.
